Prevention & Wellness

QCC is committed to reducing minority healthcare disparities and providing opportunities for our members to stand together against cancer and other killers such as substance abuse, diabetes, heart disease and stress.  We are reaching out to our partners at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, Thomas Jefferson Health District, Martha Jefferson Hospital and Region 10 to influence access and delivery of culturally-competent preventative physical and mental healthcare services in our community, as well as access to fresh, healthy produce.  We do this work through our QCC WALKS! , QCC FARMS!QCC COOKS!  Living Your Best Life and Lifeline partnership programs.

Participants in QC

C Walks! meet on Saturday mornings in different city neighborhoods for a pre-mapped out walk, working their way from 1/2 to 4 miles.  This award-winning program is supported by UVA Cancer Center, the Westhaven Clinic Coalition,  Ragged Mountain Running Shop, and Fat Rabbit.  Each month, volunteer physicians and parish nurses at the Westhaven Nursing Clinic check blood pressure and body mass indexes for each walker. Living Your Best Life

QCC's Living Your Best Life committee has organized fun and informative community health events featuring nationally recognized experts.  In addition to educating and  uniting our community against threats to our health and well-being, these events provide an opportunity for health screenings and enrollment in our award-winning QCC Walks! program.
